The Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal was established following negotiations aimed at resolving the Iran-U.S. hostage crisis. The Tribunal was created as a means of bringing about binding third-party arbitration. The Tribunal has jurisdiction to decide claims of United States nationals against Iran and of Iranian nationals against the United States, which arise out of debts, contracts, expropriations or other measures affecting property, among other types of claims.
