The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was established by a resolution of the Economic and Social Council in March 1947 as one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations. It was established to deal with the economic problems in Europe after WWII. Now with 55 members, the UNECE's primary goal is to "encourage greater economic cooperation among its member States."
