Some of the earliest international law arose from nations' use of international waters. When people gained the technology to explore and exploit air and space, as well as new water resources such as seabeds, they recognized the need for legal regimes to govern these resources.
This section of EISIL highlights important instruments and web resources for researching the law of space, air, and the Arctic and Antarctic regions. It also includes resources on water law: maritime (navigation and shipping); oceans; international rivers, lakes, groundwater and wetlands.
