According to the Union of International Associations (UIA), there are over 50,000 international organizations (IGOs, NGOs and other bodies). An inter-governmental organization (IGO) is generally a public or governmental organization created by treaty or agreement between States. An non-governmental organization (NGO) is established by individuals or associations of individuals. This section of EISIL will focus on core IGOs and resources for locating NGOs. See the other topical sections of EISIL for more information on NGOs in particular areas of international law.
In-depth assistance on researching international organizations is available in the ASIL Guide to Electronic Resources for International Laws continuously updated chapter on this subject.
