Description: On March 15, 2006, the General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/60/251 establishing the Human Rights Council. On March 27, 2006, the Commission on Human Rights concluded its sixty-second and final session.

The UN Commission on Human Rights was a Charter-based body and its "procedures and mechanisms are mandated to examine, monitor and publicly report either on human rights situations in specific countries or territories (known as country mechanisms or mandates) or on major phenomena of human rights violations worldwide (known as thematic mechanisms or mandates). These procedures and mechanisms are collectively referred to as the Special Procedures of the Commission on Human Rights" (Commission web site).
The Commission was assisted in its work by the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, several working groups as well as rapporteurs on specific issues. The OHCHR web site provides access to documents, reports and news of the Commission.
