Description: This international agreement, signed by the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Norway, and the Soviet Union, limits the circumstances under which polar bears can be taken (killed, hunted or captured). It requires the parties to take appropriate action to protect the ecosystems of which polar bears are a part and to establish national research programs relating to the conservation and management of the species.
