Title: From Conflict to Peace Building--The Role of Natural Resources and the Environment (United Nations Environment Programme)
Available From: http://www.unep.org/pdf/pcdmb_policy_01.pdf
Last Updated: 2010-02-02
Description: The report inaugurates a new policy series by UNEP on the environmental dimensions of disasters and conflicts. Research suggests that a significant percent of international conflicts are linked to natural resources: "high value" resources like timber, diamonds, gold, mineral and oil; or scarce resources such as fertile land or water. The report discusses the key linkages between environment, conflict and peacebuilding, and provides recommendations on how these can be addressed more effectively by the international community. Fourteen case studies are included.
