Description: The International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly after a report from the Ad Hoc Committee. In evaluating the rise of terrorism around the world the committee in keeping with the principles of the United Nations, has created this Convention to help eliminate the threat of a nuclear terrorist attack which would have grave consequences around the world. The Convention outlines the definitions of the various elements used in creating nuclear weaponry while still acknowledging the right of the nations to create nuclear energy. Furthermore, descriptions of what acts constitute a violation of this Convention are given in detail as are the means by which a party may cooperate with regard to the Convention. Information on the entry into force date may be found in Article 25.
