Available From: http://www.uncitral.org/uncitral/en/uncitral_texts/electronic_commerce/1996Model.html
Conclusion Date: 1996-12-16
Description: This document includes the text of the Model Law with additional article 5 bis as adopted in 1998. UNCITRAL requests that States consider the Model Law when drafting national legislation on electronic commerce. "The Model Law ... is intended to facilitate the use of modern means of communications and storage of information, such as electronic data interchange (EDI), electronic mail and telecopy, with or without the use of such support as the Internet." (See UNCITRAL Electronic Commerce Page.) The Guide to Enactment (Guide) provides background and explanatory information to assist legislatures, executive bodies, and courts. The Guide is not included with the original UN General Assembly resolution passed in 1996.
