||Initial meetings of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) began with 15 EU member states and the European Commission. Brunei, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Most recently Cambodia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Myanmar, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia joined ASEM.
ASEM focuses on dialogue and cooperation among participating countries. The ASEM process complements rather than duplicates the work already being carried out by bilateral and multilateral initiatives. Documents include declarations, chairman's statements, ministerial meetings, reports and lists of new initiatives.
