Description: This document is the draft version of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons From Enforced Disappearance, as concluded by the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances. The draft convention defines widespread and systematic enforced disappearance as a crime against humanity (as defined by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court) and obligates all Member States to take appropriate measures to investigate enforced disappearances "committed by persons or groups of persons acting without the authorization, support or acquiescence of the State and to bring those responsible to justice" (text of treaty). The convention opens for signature in 2006.
