Description: The 1997 Protocol Amending the Treaty Establishing the Caribbean Community focuses on the economic issues facing the region. The Protocol focuses on the need to strengthen economic integration through the establishment of a CARICOM single market economy. The desired goal of this market economy is to raise the living standard of individuals throughout the region.
This is one of a series of nine protocols produced between 1993 and 2000 for the purpose of amending the 1973 Treaty of Establishing the Caribbean Community.The protocols were combined to create a new version of the treaty, the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas Establishing the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) including the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.
