Title: UN Convention on Jurisdictional Immunities of States and Their Property
Available From: http://untreaty.un.org/ilc/texts/instruments/english/conventions/4_1_2004.pdf
Conclusion Date: 2004-12-16
Description: This Convention is intended to apply to the immunity of a state and its property from the jurisdiction of the courts from another state. Specifically, the Ad Hoc Committee in developing this Convention has worked to enhance the rule of law (the accepted rules of Customary International Law) in order to contribute to the harmonization of law in this area. In striving to protect the states and their property, the Convention outlines the consent of a state to jurisdiction while also discussing those instances where a state may not claim immunity with regard to its property. Furthermore, Article 21 of the Convention defines property while other articles outline the various types of judgments, service of process and the privileges and immunities during court proceedings. The entry into force date for this instrument is outlined in Article 30 of the instrument.
