Title: World Conservation Union
Alternative Title(s): IUCN
International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources
Available From: http://www.iucn.org/
Description: This NGO with observer status to the UN has two goals: 1) facing the extinction crisis and 2) restoring and maintaining ecosystem integrity. One of the IUCN's key strategies is the "systematic improvement of laws, policies, economic instruments and institutions for the conservation and sustainable and equitable use of nature and natural resources." See IUCN Programme Framework.
Along with UNEP and FAO, IUCN jointly operates the ECOLEX database of environmental law information.
The IUCN's site provides many reports and other documents on its "themes" and "commissions" sites (including the Commission on Environmental Law), linked from the home page under Our Work. The World Conservation journal is available from 1999.
The site links to the Red List of species threatened with extinction
Most of the documents are available in PDF, although some are posted as HTML documents. Some documents are available in more than one language, although many are in English only.
