The Cartagena Agreement was originally signed on May 26, 1969 (8 ILM 910) creating the Andean Group. At it inception, the Andean Group consisted of Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. In March 1996, the heads of states of the current member countries, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, adopted the Modification Protocol to the Cartagena Agreement, which created the Andean Community (CAN, Comunidad Andina).
