|Description:||The Treaty of Nice marks the completion of the Intergovernmental Conference (2000), which was convened to find ways for European institutions to operate in preparation for the enlargement of the European Union. The Treaty of Nice creates a new legal basis, which will permit the European Council to promulgate regulations governing political parties at the European level. The Treaty of Nice amends existing European Treaties.
