| Description: | In response to an increase in the number of kidnapping and attacks on diplomats, state officials and representatives at international organizations, the Convention was adopted by the General Assembly of the UN in 1973. It requires states parties to make those offenses punishable under national law, and to either try or extradite offenders. The UN Treaty Collection website offers the text of the convention in a variety of languages (listed below), along with a summary and status information. |
