Conclusion Date: 2009-05-29
Description: Following a special session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) , the African Ministers of Environment issued the Declaration to call upon the governments of the nations of Africa to participate actively in negotiations on the comprehensive international climate change regime beyond 2012 and to promote a common African position that takes into account the priorities for Africa on sustainable development, poverty reduction and attainment of the Millennium Development Goals. The Declaration also states that increased support for Africa under the future climate change regime should be based on priorities determined by Africa: adaptation, capacity-building, research, financing and technology development and transfer, including support for South-South transfer of knowledge, in particular indigenous knowledge.
