| Description: |
This instrument was drafted by a conference of Plenipotentiaries of the UN after World War II to define the legal status of refugees. The 1951 Convention covered people displaced before 1951, a temporal restriction removed by a subsequent Protocol (1967). The Convention contains provisions that define who refugees are, outline their legal status, and provide administrative guidelines for complying with the Convention, including co-operation with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
