|Description:||UNESCO’s Member States created the Observatory in November 1997. Its original purpose was to keep members informed of new ethical, legal and societal challenges created by new information and communication technologies. Since that time, the Observatory has the added responsibility of monitoring the effect of globalization on information societies.
The Observatory serves as a clearinghouse for high-quality information about the development of knowledge societies. The site offers publications, statistics, links, and other material.
