Description: The International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling was entered into to protect whale stocks from overfishing, and to coordinate and conduct research on whale populations. The Convention established the International Whaling Commission to carry out its purposes. The Convention operates primarily through schedules that limit the taking of various whale species.
