Description: The Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution (Barcelona Convention of 1976) was an early attempt to establish mechanisms for protection of the environmental quality of the Mediterranean Sea. The Convention was significantly revised on June 10, 1995. The amended Convention, upon entry into force, will change in name to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean.
