Description: The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established in 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand. The purpose of the organization is to accelerate through joint endeavors, the economic growth, social progress and cultural development of the region. The organization also seeks to promote regional peace and stability through a variety of means including respect for the rule of law, while adhering to the principles of the United Nations Charter. Included on the organization's web site are ASEAN statistics, publications, speeches and papers as well as information on meetings and ASEAN news. Additionally, links are provided to the member sites of the member states.
