Description: Established in July 1979 by the joint initiatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia & the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with an objective to foster the development of telecommunication services and information infrastructure throughout the Asia-Pacific region, the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) is an organization of governments, telecom service providers, manufacturers of communication equipment, research and development organizations. The Constitution of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity was adopted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific on March 27, 1976. The Constitution establishes the Asia Pacific Telecommunity.
