|Title:||International Convention on Salvage, 1989|
|Alternative Title(s):||Salvage Convention|
|Entry Into Force Date:||1996-07-14|
|Description:||The Convention sets forth uniform international rules regarding salvage operations, including rules for the compensation and liability of salvors. Its predecessor convention (Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules of Law relating to Assistance and Salvage at Sea, Brussels, 1910) did not address environmental aspects of salvage operations.
The 1989 Convention provides an enhanced salvage award, taking into account the skill and efforts of the salvors in preventing or minimizing damage to the environment.
