| The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) was established by Security Council Resolution 827 as a response to the serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia since 1991, the ICTY aims to prosecute and punish grave violations of international humanitarian law and to contribute to the restoration of peace by promoting reconciliation in the former Yugoslavia. |
